Ontario Weather
Ontario is blessed with a tremendous variance of
weather conditions. Our summer is quite warm with highs around 28-30 degrees Celsius (82
degrees Fahrenheit) in the south part of the province and 22-24 degrees Celsius (74
degrees Fahrenheit) in the more northern regions. Winter can be quite cold at times, and
it is best to bring lots of warm clothing in order to protect you from the conditions you
may face. Spring and fall will call for medium to heavy-weight clothing to cover most
conditions.
Goods and Service Tax (GST) Refund for Visitors
Most goods and services in Ontario are subject to a tax.
Visitors to Canada may be eligible to reclaim GST paid on purchases and accommodations
during your visit. For the appropriate forms and details please contact The Visitor Rebate
Program, Revenue Canada.
Retail Sales Tax (RST) Refund for Visitors
Visitors to Ontario are also eligible to reclaim the provincial retail
sales tax of 8 per cent, paid on goods permanently removed form Ontario within 30 days of
purchase. Contact the Ministry of Finance Retail Sales Tax Branch, Refund Unit for further
details and conditions.
Crown Land Camping
To improve the quality of experience for campers by
ensuring that crowding and over-use of sites is reduced, there are some regulations about
Crown or public land that you should know about. Non-residents of
Canada, 18 years of age and older, are required to obtain a permit to camp on Crown Lands.
This applies to the area north of the French and Mattawa rivers, from the northwestern to
the northeastern borders of Ontario. These permits are available from most angling licence
issuers and from the Ministry of Natural Resources District Offices.
